COVID19 UPDATE – April 3, 2020

The following organizations are providing food for those affected by this crisis:

  • The city's Dept. for the Aging (DFTA) is phasing in a direct meal delivery system that will gradually replace the current Grab and Go model of food distribution at senior centers. Grab and Go meals will continue at many centers and even overlap as the new system is implemented. Contact the centers directly before going to a center to make sure they are open.
  • Assemblyman Michael Blake’s office is providing 500 meals a day for Seniors from noon -6pm. Meals cannot be delivered so please pick up food for the homebound elderly. The location is 1285 Washington Ave @ 169th St in the Bronx. Hip Hop Blvd and I am My Sista’s Keeper-Worthy by Choice are collecting hand sanitizers, toilet paper, tissues and canned goods. Please take items to the same location.

 Food for Shut-ins

The City has created the GetFoodNYC food delivery program to provide food for coronavirus (COVID-19)-vulnerable and food-insecure New Yorkers not currently served through existing food delivery programs. Call 311 for information.

Free Meals for Everyone

  • Three free meals will be available to everyone in New York at 400 meal hubs throughout New York City.
  • Meals can be picked up for children and families from 7:30 am to 11:30 am, and for adults from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm
    • All adults and children can pick up all three meals at one time
    • Vegetarian and halal options are available at all sites
  • No dining space is available, so meals must be eaten off premises
  • Parents and guardians may pick up meals for their children
  • No registration or ID required
  • No one will be turned away

Families can get the location of the nearest meal hub by texting FOOD or COMIDA to 877-877. When you get a response type in your address with city state and zip code.
